WIBAI Games was created by Loren and Jamie Cunningham of Lenexa, KS (just outside of Kansas City). In the 10 years that they have been married Loren has frequently used the phrase “Wouldn’t It Be Awesome If…”.
As in “Wouldn’t it be awesome if we had a rock star themed birthday party with a birthday cake shaped like a giant electric guitar!” and “Wouldn’t it be awesome if we turned that remote control Humvee into a giant remote control spider to run around in the cul-de-sac this Halloween!” and “Wouldn’t be awesome if there were a board game where you are running from monsters, but if you collect the wrong cards you turn INTO a monster and then go kill the other players!”, which then turned into “Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could get this game published!”
So when the board game manufacturer demanded a “company name” to send a quote, Wouldn’t It Be Awesome If Games (WIBAI Games) was born.
Loren and Jamie are avid board game enthusiasts. Both enjoyed playing games growing up, registered for games on their wedding registry and played games at family gatherings and parties. Their favorite game was Cranium until some very good friends (thanks Brian & Jessica!) introduced them to Settlers of Catan. As it has been for so many, this served as the gateway drug game into the Eurogame addiction. Some of Loren and Jamie’s favorite games include Seven Wonders, Abyss, Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Small World, Pandemic, Kemet, Cyclades, Killer Bunnies, Dixit, Kill Doctor Lucky, Mascarade, and the list literally goes on and on and they have the game closet to prove it!
Loren & Jamie started creating their own board games within a year of playing Settlers of Catan for the first time. The first game was a spin-off of Settlers created to add a new genre to the game. From there Loren & Jamie were always working on multiple ideas. Until GenCon 2012 Loren and Jamie had primarily created games for their own amusement, but their first big game convention inspired them to make a game that could go beyond their personal game collection.
Transylvania: Curses & Traitors was born in September of 2012. The first “playable” prototype was produced and played in early January of 2013 and has been play-tested extensively since then. WIBAI Games was born later that summer and the successful Kickstarter for Transylvania: Curses & Traitors was launched May 1st of 2014.
Loren is a successful business owner and has been in the recruiting industry since 1999. He has a degree in accounting, a background in sales, and has run his own business since 2004. Loren enjoys the business, sales, networking and marketing that goes along with being a business owner, including working with the accountants, attorneys, and other business people. Loren is a fan of Kansas City Chiefs football and Royals baseball. He plays a bit of guitar, took three years of fencing lesions (My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.) and learned to swing dance (primarily to meet girls).
Jamie has a Bachelors degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology and works as a biology professor. She and Loren met swing dancing (apparently his plan worked). When not hosting board game nights at their home Jamie plans parties and writes her own murder mysteries, bakes cakes in elaborate shapes (like electric guitars) and raises their four year old daughter.
